Job Description/Requirements

This position is to manage all social work aspects of the children and families assigned within Africa Oasis Foundations’ Scholarship program and help improve the livelihood and quality of life of these children and their families. The Community Engagement (CE) Social Worker is expected to help protect and improve the social wellbeing and functioning of the children and families that they mentor while supporting the community with exemplary Christian conduct.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the children’s best interest is a priority

• Establish nurturing and growing relationships with assigned children and their families

• Facilitate character formation, with assigned children, in alignment with a Christian perspective

• Promote holistic growth and development among assigned children and their families

• Facilitate discipleship focus within our Scholarship Program

• Help provide oversight and teaching in our Scholarship Program

• Available to respond and assist during emergencies

• To set an example of servant leadership, use biblical principles to resolve disputes, speaks to edify and encourage, and demonstrates faithful obedience to God. 

• To model positive and mature Christian, social, educational, emotional, and to lead by example. 

• To live out a biblically sound marriage reflecting Christ and His Church. 

• To leverage personal gifts and skills where applicable to support the mission of Africa Oasis Foundation.

• Ensure the children’s care is provided for with proper health and education needs

• Have knowledge of surrounding health and educational facilities within reach of the families and be a liaison between the two when needed

• Provide family counseling and support by encouraging participation of the families to develop solutions to their problems

• Visit families of students in their homes, along with Kamabuye Family Mentor Partner

• Advice and counsel sponsored children in career path and educational options

• Keep accurate, detailed and timely records and progress reports of all children and families

• Conduct needs assessments; monitor needs fulfillment and needs development

• Liaise with Community Engagement Director to identify family and community needs and work together with the community resources to develop ways of meeting the identified needs

• Assist Community Engagement Director in overall program direction and ways to improve overall program operation

• Behavior in both professional and private life that is aligned with Africa Oasis Foundations’ statement of faith and biblical lifestyle agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Social work Diploma/Degree or the equivalent qualifications

• Must be a committed Christian who is in full agreement with the Statement of Faith of Africa Oasis Foundation.

• Able to write and communicate effectively in English and Kinyarwanda. 

• Knowledge of social work theories, practices and procedures

• Knowledge of child protection theories and laws in Rwanda

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity

• Hardworking, friendly, focused and able to work as a team

• Demonstrate judgment and creativity in dealing with safety issues, aggressive families & children at risk

• Must be committed to the mission of Africa Oasis Foundation and willing to make a minimum two-year commitment
