Djasillah (pronounced Jazillah) lives in the Kamabuye sector with her parents and nine siblings, making them a family of 10 children. Djasillah is the 5th born. The family is very poor, with no house or land to cultivate crops. They live in someone else's home, not as renters, and survive by working for others on their farms. Her father has expressed that feeding and educating all their children is a heavy burden, and often they only manage to have one meal a day. Previously, Djasillah’s family lived in Gisenyi, but they moved to Kamabuye in search of better job opportunities and a way to improve their lives.
Last year, Djasillah became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl, who is now one year old. The man who fathered the child has disappeared, and the case has been reported to the RIB (Rwanda Investigation Bureau), though they are still waiting for feedback. Djasillah’s parents are struggling to care for both her and her baby. Despite the challenges she faces, Djasillah has not given up on her education. With support from AOF staff and school leaders, she has been able to continue her studies and is now in Secondary One, performing well. AOF continues to assist her with school materials, fees, and health insurance.
Djasillah requires ongoing support and close follow-up to ensure she does not drop out of school. She is in great need of care and attention to help her overcome her challenges and continue her education.
