Grace lives in the Kamabuye Sector with her mom and 3 of her siblings. Her father is from Burundi originally but he left the family and went back there when Grace was a baby. The father doesn’t support the family. Grace’s mother had another husband who died in 1995. Grace’s family doesn’t own their own home. They rent a house and they have a small farm where they grow crops for their own consumption. Her mother is very old; she is not able to cultivate and grow enough food for the family. The family struggles with food and other basic needs. Grace is supported by African Oasis Foundation in her studies and she performs well. She is always taking 1st place in the class. At home she is very helpful; she helps with activities such as cooking food, washing clothes, cleaning, etc.
