Kambayire and her parents initially lived in Gikongoro village in the Southern Province before moving to the Ngeruka Sector in Bugesera District. However, shortly after their arrival, her parents separated due to ongoing conflicts. Her father left the village and has not returned since. Later, her mother remarried and left Kambayire and her siblings behind. Unable to survive on their own, Kambayire and her siblings were adopted by their maternal grandmother, despite the fact that she is 71 years old.
Currently, Kambayire lives with her grandmother and siblings in Ngeruka Sector. The grandmother does not own a house or land and is too old to work for others. The family relies on a small government stipend of 7,000 FRW per month ($5.03 USD), which is insufficient to meet their needs. Often, they are able to eat only once a day. Despite these hardships, Kambayire excels in her studies and is an active member of her church, attending every Sunday. This family is in urgent need of support to help meet their basic needs, especially for Kambayire’s education.
