Soleil lives with both of her parents and siblings in the Ngeruka Sector. Her mother is the second wife of her father, who is now 63 years old. The father survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda, but his first wife and three children were tragically killed. He remarried in 2005, and Soleil is the daughter of his second wife. Due to his age, the father is unable to fully meet the needs of all his children. The family owns a house and land to grow crops, but the house is in poor condition and needs renovation. Soleil started school this year and performs well, but she suffers from eye problems and requires ongoing medical attention and support to continue her studies effectively.
